​Food Justice is Environmental Justice

Environmental justice includes food justice and resource equity.
​Environmental justice includes access to healthy food, especially for communities affected by food insecurity and food deserts. Children in many neighborhoods lack nearby grocery stores, fresh produce, or safe water sources—issues deeply tied to racial, economic, and environmental inequality.

Through our sustainability curriculum, children:

• Grow their own food in classroom and community gardens
• Learn where food comes from and why access matters
• Explore water as a precious resource and understand the importance of conservation
• Discuss and reflect (in age-appropriate ways) on who has access to food and clean water—and who might not
• Develop empathy for those affected by pollution or environmental injustice

By introducing these topics early, we help raise children who are not only nature stewards, but also advocates for healthy communities and fair food systems. ​We help children connect what they do in the garden or water table to what’s happening in the world around them.
